In college, I was doing everything I could to break into the sports world.

I worked part-time for the IndyStar, covering high school sports. I raised my hand in class whenever there was an opportunity to cover big sporting events coming to town. I interned with the Indiana Pacers. I even spent an entire year as the sports editor for my campus newspaper (the same year I got to cover the Super Bowl!).

But one opportunity in particular helped me discover a love for a sport I’d never thought I’d have: a volunteer journalism job for PiratesDugout.Com (which is now BucsDugout.Com).

I spent most of that summer at the ballpark in downtown Indianapolis, covering the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians.

And. I. Fell. In. Love. 😍

I learned so much about the game, the stats, the teams, the players, and how to conduct interviews through an interpreter.

But most importantly, that summer taught me just how deeply baseball fans love their teams and how much they hate their rivals. And some of these feuds? Well, they span the generations and have become a part of the sports DNA.

So, I thought it’d be fun to give you my top four baseball rivalries and why the fans lose their minds over these matchups every year.
