Issue XXIV – Welcome!
A PR lesson I learned last week…
ICYMI, I recently took on the role of Director of PR for a semi-pro football team. It’s a first-year team, so I’m building this department from scratch. I’m talking to everyone and anyone who will give me the time of day to gain insights. Let me know if you want more of this kinda thing in future issues!
Anywho! Last week, I spoke to a gentleman who worked in the PR department of the Chicago Bears over the last decade, and one thing he said to me that’s definitely going into the media training kit is:
When it comes to wins, always use “we" and when it comes to losses, always use “I”.
Why? Because when you win, you celebrate as a unit, but when you lose, you take responsibility for your mistakes.
I just wanted to share that with you. But enough blabbing…let’s get into today’s topic:
BASEBALL! ⚾️
Somehow, the Atlanta Braves are bullying their entire division, sitting at 25-10, and the dude they keep calling "the best player on Earth" — Shohei Ohtani, we'll get to him in a minute — is currently 2-1 with a 0.60 ERA and 6 home runs on the season.
But first: what the heck is going on out there? 162 games is..like..A LOT. Why are there so many acronyms, and what the heck is the 7th inning stretch?
By the time you finish this issue, you'll know how a baseball game flows, what the positions are, why fans care so much about decimals, and what ERA stands for.
(that’s EE-R-AYEs, not another leg of the Eras Tour, sorry!).
